DPRA to implement DNA sampling. Don't wait, do it now! Visit our new Calendar page to see where the Darties will be appearing next! |
Info updated
There will be a general meeting of the Dartmoor Pony Registry of America at the Kentucky Horse Park on Saturday, October 13, 2007. This is in conjunction with the National Drive (www.nationaldrive.net). Details for the Drive are on the website. Our meeting will be held Saturday night after the drive activities. It is an informal gathering of DPRA members, and anyone interested in our breed. Bring all questions and conversation. There will not be a board meeting, as we will not have a quorum of board members there. Any agenda that involves finance or major policy change can be voted on via e-mail or phone by the board members at a later time. Any questions or need for contact, call Susan Deutermann at the event - 336/432-7997 - or at home up until that Wednesday before - 336/342-2524. I will be locating a restaurant in the near future and keep you posted. You can come to the barns and locate the pod of Dartmoors that will be stabled together. Visit http://www.nationaldrive.net for all the event schedule, hotel info, etc. Registry now requires DNA sampling DNA sampling has become part of a Dartmoor pony’s registration. Both PARENTS of any foals born in 2008 and later must have DNA samples on file with the DPRA. DNA Sampling is required on breeding stock only. Colts must have a DNA sample on file when registering to stallion status. Fillies/mares must be done before any of their foals may be registered. There would be no requirement to sample geldings or other non-producing ponies. Fillies could be done as young stock or when they were being bred. Taking DNA samples will keep us up to date with the other breed registries, such as the Welsh and the British Dartmoor Pony Society, and it provides an impartial verification of breeding programs if ever there’s a question. We are a small registry now, but we are growing and it is best to get this started and work all the snags out of the system so that we won’t have to do a “hurry up” change later. The test is quite simple and not expensive. Click here or contact Lory Eighme, the Registrar, for a form and instructions. The cost is $31, and the University of Kentucky keeps the records and sends a copy to our registrar. |
